Sam Adams beers are hit or miss for me. As a whole, I find them a bit too balanced and uninteresting, starting with their standard Boston Lager. Still, I couldn't resist when I saw Cold Snap on the shelf at Trader Joe's. I'm a sucker for a seasonal brew. One of my favorite moments in life is the first "pop" of an ice cold beer being opened. The initial spray-filled whiff usually provides my eager taste buds with a reliable preview of what's to come. Aroma: Cracking the lid on this bottle immediately fills my nostrils with rich toasty bliss. The aroma is crisp and sharp; tart, yet malty. Taste: Citrus and spice, with a Belgian finish. This isn't surprising in a beer this cloudy. It's definitely a wheat beer, and reminds me of a hefeweizen. Orange! I don't know why I didn't notice it sooner. Oranges add body and intermingle with the spices. Similar: Blue Moon Belgian Wheat (I would recommend Cold Snap every time). Price and availability: $7.99-9.99 for a six pack. Available January through March nationwide (this is their spring offering, designed as a followup to their Winter Lager). Recommendation: Buy this beer before it's gone and drink it cold. #SamuelAdams #SamAdams #TraderJoes #GreatBeer #Beer #CraftBeer |
