Old Hickory Blended Whiskey:
Nose: Hints of OFF (the bug spray) at first, and a LOT of vanilla and spices.
Taste: Spiced vanilla; this whiskey reminds me of a spiced rum more than any other dram I've ever tasted. If you like Captain Morgan, this one's for you!
Born in Kentucky, but now being created in Tennessee, Old Hickory has been around in one form or another for over 100 years.
Bowman Brothers Small Batch Virginia Bourbon:
Nose: Peach, spiced apples, vanilla, cinnamon.
Taste: Add in some toffee, oak, maple, and nuts.
Bowman Brothers wins this round hands down! And that's not surprising. They are not only Virginia's oldest distillery, but also have produced "World's Best Bourbon" two years running (2016-17).
DryFly Wheat Whiskey:
Nose/Taste: Alcohol first, then reminds me of Makers Mark.
Taste: Makers Mark, with a slightly flatter body. Toasted oak with carmel and vanilla finish.
The baby of the batch, DryFly is a newer distillery from the pacific northwest that sources all of its inputs locally, and that is impressive these days!
